Settler Imagination and Presence in Southern Africa

candle3.jpg

This is a site of documentary photography, examining the traces and heritage of early 19th century British settlement in South Africa's Eastern Cape.

The famous immigration of the 1820 Settlers acts as a starting point for a meditation on settler culture, geographical and cultural passage, and the fate of the settler project under post-colonialism.

Please browse the menus for images from the project and brief explanatory writing.
