Going home
At the end of the working day farmers make their way back to their homesteads in their "bakkies", or pickup trucks. The working farms of the lower Albany area are substantial consolidations of the original allocations of 100 acres per settler, which was, and is, far too small for viability in an area of predominantly extensive agriculture; in the case of this farm near Salem, the enterprise is based on beef cattle.
